What is hungry water and why use it on glass?

Short answer

Hungry water is our name for the water in QuickShine. It is made with activated water technology, using a seven-step filtration process, and it is just water. You spray a light mist, then buff with a dry microfibre cloth. With nothing else in the bottle, the only thing your cloth has to deal with is the dirt on the glass.

Where hungry water came from

QuickShine started in a garage. Tim, one of our founders, wiped down a table that was meant to be clean and still saw smears across it. He set out to make a glass cleaner that was just water, and that became QuickShine and its activated water technology.

Why glass streaks in the first place

Glass shows everything. Most streaks are something left behind after you wipe:

  • Too much product. Heavy spraying leaves more liquid than the cloth can lift.
  • The wrong cloth. Paper towel leaves lint, and a damp or softener-coated cloth just moves smears around.
  • Tap water drying on the glass. In hard water areas, drops that dry on a shower screen or window leave pale spots behind.

How to use hungry water on glass

  1. Wipe off loose dust or grit first.
  2. Mist QuickShine lightly onto the glass or onto the cloth.
  3. Wipe with one side of a clean microfibre polishing cloth.
  4. Turn to a dry side and buff until clear.

For screens, spray the cloth, not the screen. The same method works on mirrors, glass tables and stainless steel. Our guide to cleaning mirrors without streaks covers the two-cloth version for big mirrors.

The cloth does half the work

Use a proper microfibre polishing cloth and keep it dry for the final buff. Wash it without fabric softener, because softener coats the fibres and stops them buffing cleanly.

Refill instead of rebuying

Keep one bottle and top it up. Pour QuickShine refills into the EverGlass reusable glass spray bottle, available in Pink and Blue.

FAQ

What is hungry water?

Hungry water is our name for the water in QuickShine. It is made with activated water technology, using a seven-step filtration process. QuickShine is just water.

Is QuickShine just water?

Yes. QuickShine is water, made with our activated water technology. You use it with a dry microfibre polishing cloth on glass, mirrors and stainless steel.

Why do windows streak after cleaning?

Usually because something is left behind on the glass: too much product, a damp or dirty cloth, or tap water drying on the surface. Use a light mist and buff dry with a clean microfibre cloth.

What cloth should I use with hungry water?

A clean, dry microfibre polishing cloth. Don't wash it with fabric softener, as softener coats the fibres and they stop buffing cleanly.
