Beyond the Label: What's Inside BioPure Laundry Sheets?

At TruWash, we believe in being 100% honest with our community. We know that "Natural" sounds like a promise of safety, but in reality, that word can be a bit of a marketing trap. Even natural ingredients can be harsh on the skin, damaging to our waterways, or simply not strong enough to get your laundry clean.

That’s why we don’t just follow labels; we follow the science. What actually matters is how an ingredient is sourced and how it is used—specifically its dosage, its safety for your skin, and its environmental footprint. In many cases, a carefully chosen synthetic ingredient is cleaner, more stable, and safer than a "natural" alternative that might be unstable or harmful to the planet.

At TruWash, we don't look at whether something is "natural" or "synthetic" as a badge of honour. We look at whether it is demonstrably safe, effective, and responsible for your family. We want to take the fear out of ingredient lists by being completely transparent about what is in our sheets.

The TruWash Formula: Exactly What’s Inside

We want you to know the purpose of every single ingredient we use. Here is our full breakdown, straight from our technical Safety Data Sheets (SDS):

  • Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate (15-35%)

    • The Job: A powerful surfactant.

    • The Benefit: This is the muscle of the sheet. It creates the foam needed to break down oils and lift dirt from your clothes so they can be washed away.

  • Polyvinyl Alcohol (15-30%)

    • The Job: A water-soluble, biodegradable synthetic polymer.

    • The Benefit: This is the "scaffold" of the sheet. It allows us to ditch the bulky plastic bottles. It dissolves entirely in water and is broken down by microorganisms, leaving zero trace behind.

  • Kaolin (5-15%)

    • The Job: A natural mineral clay.

    • The Benefit: This mineral helps give the sheet its structure and assists in pulling impurities away from fabrics naturally.

  • Glycerine (1-10%)

    • The Job: A plant-derived stabilizer.

    • The Benefit: Glycerine keeps our sheets pliable and prevents them from becoming brittle. It’s a well-known, gentle ingredient used even in sensitive skincare.

  • Sodium Citrate (1-10%)

    • The Job: A salt derived from citric acid.

    • The Benefit: It acts as a water softener. This is vital because it ensures our sheets work just as well in hard water areas as they do in soft water.

  • Lauryl Glucoside (0.5-5%)

    • The Job: A gentle cleanser derived from coconut or corn.

    • The Benefit: This is one of our favourite plant derivatives. It’s highly effective at cleaning but incredibly mild, making it perfect for those with sensitive skin.

  • Saponins (0.1-1%)

    • The Job: Natural soaping agents found in plants.

    • The Benefit: These provide a boost of nature’s own cleaning power, working in harmony with our other ingredients.

  • 1,2-Benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one (BIT) (0-0.01%)

    • The Job: A synthetic stabilizer.

    • The Benefit: We include this in a tiny amount to prevent mold or bacteria from growing in your sheets.

    • The Safety: At less than 0.01%, it is far below the level where it could cause skin irritation. Because our sheets are a "wash-off" product, this stabilizer is rinsed away, ensuring your clothes are clean and your skin is safe.

Why Transparency is Our Priority

Many people feel uneasy when they see long, technical-sounding names, but we believe that education is the best way to build trust. By using a precise blend of plant-derived cleaners and safe, minimal synthetic stabilizers, we can provide a product that actually works—without the environmental cost of traditional detergents.

We aren't here to hide behind buzzwords. We are here to provide a product that is safe for your kids, your pets, and the earth. We pride ourselves on this honesty, so you can feel 100% confident every time you start a load of laundry with TruWash.

Still have questions? We are an open book. Email us at oops@truwash.co.uk and we’ll be happy to chat through the science with you!
