CO-FOUNDER · TRUWASH

I didn't mean to reinvent laundry.

It started with a rash. Red, itchy patches on my arms and chest that wouldn't settle down no matter what I did. I thought it was stress. I thought it was the weather. I thought it was a hundred things before I thought about the clothes I was wearing.

And then one day I clicked. I'd just pulled a fresh t-shirt out of the wash. Same shirt, same drawer — same reaction.

It wasn't me — it was what I'd been washing my clothes in.

So I went down the rabbit hole and flipped over the bottle of detergent I'd been using my whole life. Optical brighteners. Phthalates buried in "fragrance." Chlorine bleach. 1,4-Dioxane. Formaldehyde preservatives. A dozen ingredients I couldn't pronounce — most of them sitting on every piece of clothing my family wore, every day.

My dad Tim had been running a small eco cleaning brand from our home in Northern Ireland since 2019 — the TruWash you might already know. I told him what I'd found. We decided there and then: we'd build a better one.

Two years of research. Dozens of formulas. A lot of late nights and ruined t-shirts. And then, finally — BioPure. No optical brighteners. No undisclosed phthalates. No chlorine. No formaldehyde.2 Plant-derived, pre-dosed, dermatologically tested3, and honestly? Better at cleaning than the one that gave me the rash.4

My skin cleared up within two weeks of switching.4 My mum switched. My sister switched. Over 100,000 families have switched since.5 And we're still just a family doing the best we can to make a difference.

If you're here, something made you click too. Maybe a rash. Maybe a little one with eczema. Maybe a nagging feeling about what you've been pouring into the drum every week. Whatever it was — I'm glad you found us.

Joel & Tim x

If any of this sounds like you, we'd love you in.

◆ The nasties8, uncovered

What's actually in the bottle under your sink.

Every one of these is legal to put in a mainstream laundry detergent.1 Most are unlisted, hidden behind vague ingredient names, or show up as contaminants that never made the label in the first place.

01
Optical brighteners
sold as "whiter whites"

Don't clean anything. They coat your clothes to reflect UV light and trick your eyes. They sit on your skin. Every wash. Every day.

02
Undisclosed phthalates
hiding in "fragrance"

"Fragrance" is a legal loophole — mainstream brands don't have to tell you what's in it. Linked to hormone disruption.1 Our fragrance is derm-tested3 and disclosed. Theirs isn't.

03
Chlorine bleach
residue per wash

Leaves trace residue on every fibre it touches. Next to your skin. In your bed. On your kids' pyjamas.1

04
1,4-Dioxane
byproduct, unlisted

A contaminant formed during detergent manufacturing. Never listed on the label. Classified as a probable human carcinogen.1

05
Formaldehyde preservatives
to extend shelf life

Added to stop bottles going off in the warehouse. Does absolutely nothing for you. Known skin sensitiser.1

06
Phosphates
banned in EU detergents1

Still sneaking into imported products. Lethal to aquatic life. Every wash flows into a river, eventually.

we didn't invent a new category — we just made the honest version.

The quiet comparison.

What's on the shelf vs. what's in your trial pack.

◆ How it works

Three steps.
That's the whole thing.

We kept it simple on purpose — so it actually becomes the habit.

01

Drop one sheet in the drum

With your clothes. Before you press start. No measuring, no mess, no pouring.

02

Wash as normal

Any temperature. Any machine. The sheet dissolves completely in the cycle.

03

Clean clothes. No nasties.8

Detergent, stain remover, and softener — all in one pre-dosed sheet.

Before you join.

Everything you might be wondering.

Is this really free?
Yes — the trial pack itself is genuinely free. You pay £0 today for 5 sheets (10 washes) + free UK trial shipping9 + a meal donated in your name.7 After 14 days, your TruCrew subscription starts at £12 + £3.95 shipping (£15.95/month). We'll email you 3 days before the first charge. Cancel anytime in one click.
What happens after the 14 days?
14 days after your trial pack is delivered, your TruCrew subscription begins automatically. You'll be charged £12 for the pack + £3.95 standard shipping = £15.95 total. A full BioPure pack (60 washes) ships the same day. It then recurs every 30 days at £15.95 until you cancel. We'll email you 3 days before the first charge so there are no surprises.
How do I cancel?
One click from your account portal — we use Skio, the industry-standard subscription tool. Log in, press cancel, done. No retention calls, no survey, no guilt.
When will I get my pack?
Tim ships orders within 5 working days from Northern Ireland. UK & Ireland deliveries typically arrive 3–5 days after dispatch. You'll get tracking the moment it leaves.
I have sensitive skin / eczema. Is this safe?
BioPure is dermatologically tested3 and formulated without optical brighteners, phthalates, 1,4-Dioxane, chlorine bleach, or formaldehyde preservatives.2 Derm-tested, phthalate-free fragrance. Individual sensitivities to natural fragrance allergens vary — please review the full ingredient list before use if you have known allergies or a diagnosed skin condition.3
Does it actually work?
Over 100,000 families across the UK & Ireland use TruWash weekly.5 Read the reviews above — we haven't cherry-picked them.4 If it doesn't clean your clothes as well as your current brand, cancel from your account before your first charge. No fuss.
Will a meal really be donated?
Yes. We partner with Mary's Meals — a charity that provides one nutritious meal in school every day for a child who would otherwise go hungry. A meal gets donated in your name the moment your trial pack ships.7

The sources and context behind every claim on this page. Tap any superscript number above to jump straight to the relevant note.

  1. 1

Ingredient concerns in conventional laundry detergents. References to 1,4-Dioxane, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, undisclosed phthalates, chlorine bleach, optical brighteners and phosphates describe properties of the substances themselves as classified by regulatory and public-health bodies. 1,4-Dioxane is listed by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) as Group 2B, a possible human carcinogen. Formaldehyde and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives (e.g. methylchloroisothiazolinone / methylisothiazolinone) are classified as skin sensitisers under EU CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. Certain ortho-phthalates are restricted under EU REACH Annex XVII. Phosphates in consumer laundry detergents are restricted under EU Regulation (EU) 259/2012 (retained in GB law). These references describe substance-level regulatory classifications only. They are not claims that any specific named competitor product currently contains these ingredients above legal limits, and not all conventional detergents contain all of these substances.

  2. 2

Our BioPure formula. Phrases such as "no optical brighteners," "no undisclosed phthalates," "no chlorine bleach," "no formaldehyde," "zero nasties" and "plant-derived" describe our BioPure Laundry Sheet formula. Full INCI ingredient list, fragrance allergen disclosures and Safety Data Sheet are available at /pages/ingredients-safety-data.

  3. 3

Dermatological testing. BioPure has undergone independent dermatological patch testing on the finished formula. This is not a medical claim or a clearance for any specific skin condition, including eczema, psoriasis or contact dermatitis. Individual sensitivities to fragrance components (including declared natural allergens such as Linalool, Limonene, Citronellol, Geraniol and Citral where present) vary. If you have known allergies or a diagnosed skin condition, please review the full ingredient list before use and discontinue use if irritation occurs.

  4. 4

Reviews, testimonials and personal experience. Customer reviews and founder anecdotes reflect individual experiences and are not medical testimonials. Individual results — including cleaning performance, sensory experience and any skin response — vary between customers and machines. Reviews are from verified TruWash purchasers.

  5. 5

Community and social-proof figures. "Over 100,000 families," "101,247+ families switched" and similar figures refer to cumulative TruWash and BioPure customers across the UK & Ireland from 2019 to date. They do not represent active weekly users or a specific point-in-time count.

  6. 6

Campaign figures. Trial packs remaining, packs claimed, hourly joins, video view counts and the promotional countdown timer on this page are indicative campaign figures. They are updated periodically during the promotional period and may include modelled or projected values rather than exact real-time totals. The promotional offer (free trial pack) is subject to availability and TruWash reserves the right to close the promotion at any time.

  7. 7

Mary's Meals partnership. TruWash is a corporate supporter of Mary's Meals, a registered charity that provides one nutritious school meal to children living in some of the world's poorest communities. Meal donations are made per product on the following basis: 1 meal per BioPure trial pack shipped; 5 additional meals per BioPure subscription pack shipped; other donation levels apply to other TruWash products (up to 10+ meals per bundle) — full breakdown on each product page. Donations are made by TruWash directly to Mary's Meals and do not add to the customer's order total. The "meals donated this launch" counter reflects cumulative modelled donations for the current promotional campaign. Learn more at marysmeals.org.uk.

  8. 8

What we mean by "the nasties." Throughout this page, "the nasties," "zero nasties" and "no nasties" refer to a defined set of six substances or classes of substance that are commonly present in mainstream conventional laundry detergents and that BioPure is formulated without: (i) undisclosed phthalates (as a class of substances often used within undisclosed fragrance blends); (ii) optical brighteners (fluorescent whitening agents such as stilbene derivatives); (iii) chlorine bleach and chlorine-releasing agents (e.g. sodium hypochlorite, sodium dichloroisocyanurate); (iv) 1,4-Dioxane (typically present as an unlisted manufacturing by-product of ethoxylated surfactants); (v) formaldehyde and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives (e.g. methylchloroisothiazolinone / methylisothiazolinone, DMDM hydantoin); and (vi) phosphates (e.g. sodium tripolyphosphate). See note 1 for the regulatory classifications underlying these substances, and note 2 for our own formula. Full BioPure INCI ingredient list at /pages/ingredients-safety-data. The term is used as a defined shorthand for these six substances only and is not intended as an open-ended safety claim about any product outside this list.

  9. 9
